Sonja Kristina is a singer, actress & songwriter who began exploring and performing in the 1960s folk clubs. At 15 she was studying drama whilst sharing billing with such luminaries as Sandy Denny and Al Stewart and Buffy Saint Marie. In 1970 joined the nucleus of the band Curved Air as lead vocalist and lyricist. Here she is interviewed by Esoteric label manager, Mark Powell.

  • This is a wonderful woman...she looks fantastic, she is focused and wildly informative. I played bass in that band for a couple years and I can tell you that this is one classy chick. Rambling mess? You're an idiot. This woman has lived 3 lifetimes full of music and adventure....and you, jordiballs (what a clever name), what the hell have you done in life besides come up with a stupid user id that probably explains what you have in your mouth on the weekends and maybe on the weekdays as well.

  • Sonja Kristina pretty voice.

I like very much Curved Air.

  • PS My daughter played the Troubadour recently ......

  • Johnny Silver! God, I remember him, Son. Good interview. It is so rewarding to hear someone who is so nicely spoken and articulate. Curved Air played some very fine music and, of course, I have a huge fondness for Air Cut with my best and oldest friend Mike Wedgwood on bass and vocals. And Sonja, I also remember The Piccadilly Line, for heaven's sake! CA's loveliest songs are probably Jumbo from CA 2 and Easy from Air Cut.

  • @kohnhed I love her too, but she does drone on and on and on. And although you may have played bass with a band I like, after their heyday you forgot to mention (so this makes her an interesting speaker exactly how?), you sound like a total ass. And how would you know what ANY poster on YouTube has done with their life? Guess what-- people with lives post here too, and they also have opinions.

  • @RenshiottParrfmFyrre LOOOOOOOOOOOL....my mom calls Sonja and my name is Kristina :') pretty cool

  • I loved Curved Air in the 70's, especially loved Sonja's voice. Wonderful to see they have regrouped and are reviving some of their old songs. Sonja you are looking good girl :)

  • Curved Air topped the bill at my Fresher's Ball (4/10/71). Sonja and the rest of the band were first class. A great evening which I still remember after countless other great evenings which have faded from memory !

  • @kohnhed Ahhh, So you came into playing bass with Curved Air thru Daryl Way ?

  • Sonja Kristina is a Legend...!

  • Saw Curved Air in Derby in the mid 70's FANTASTIC (Never heard of them before so just turned up at a gig (Those we're the days) Sonja has lived in my memory ever since and I wish I had followed them a lot more. To this day I still rave on about Curved Air and Sonja.

  • @scotchrumour @josefresko Copeland was romantically involved with Curved Air vocalist Sonja Kristina beginning in 1974, and they were married from 1982 to 1991. Copeland adopted Kristina's son Sven from a prior relationship, and they had two more sons together, Jordan and Scott.
