Don't bank on the Isle of Man

I put my life savings on deposit with Kaupthing Isle of Man after being assured that my money was safe. With the backing of the Financial Supervision Commission the directors put over 50% of the bank's assets into Kaupthing UK which subsequently went into Administration! I received no letter of explanation or apology from the directors, and now I have to wait 6 years before I get a fraction of my money back. My message to anyone who is thinking of depositing in the IoM is: "don't bank on the Isle of Man" More on this here:

You are a poor sod. You seem unable to understand in spite of having been told many times, that we do pay tax.. You would understand very well if you put your money in a bank and it desappeared down a black hole and 10 months later you still had no money. Stop being poisonous.

For those UK resident depositors with the KSF in the IOM (who had more than the £50k compensation level) they are going to soon have a more serious problem to deal with-the HMRC Special Investigations unit are expected to examine in detail their tax returns & the sources of the money they stashed offshore instead of keeping it legit in a Post Office savings account;-)

Sorry to disppoint you but I do pay tax to the Inland Revenue in UK. I dont actually get anything for it. Also I am not permitted to open bank accounts in the UK so have to bank offshore.

I have no bloody sympathy. People send their money to offshore banks to avoid paying their share of tax, and now whinge because it all went wrong.

Whilst you're saving yourself from contributing tax, the rest of us poor sods are taxed a little more to make up the difference.

It is the IoM's fault because some dimwitted regulator on the ioM chose to authorize the transfer of over half a billion pounds to the UK without it being ring-fenced. How stupid can you get?

After 10 months of suffering there is still not a 100% guarantee of the return of our money as Gordon Brown (PM) suggested. He said that ALL governments outside UK should undertake to vouchsafe depositors 100% - SO WHY DO THE ISLE OF MAN THINK THEY ARE DIFFERENT ??
