BUFFALO, N.Y. - As expected, Eva Cummings pleaded guilty to murdering her 23 year old mentally-challenged daughter Laura Wednesday afternoon in Erie County Court.
Cummings faces a a minimum of 25 years, and a maximum of 58-years-to-life in prison term when she's sentenced by Judge Michael D'Amico on November 16th.
In pleading guilty, Cummings was forced to publicly admit to what she did to her daughter.
She was questioned in court by Judge Michael D'Amico.
Judge D'Amico: "January 21st, 2010, murder in the second degree, an allegation that you caused the death of Laura Cummings, did you do that?"
Eva Cummings: "Yes I did."
Judge D'Amico: "How did you do that?"
Eva Cummings: "I put my hand over her mouth until she stopped breathing."
Cummings also admitted that over the last two years of Laura's life she beat her, scalded her, tied her to a chair with a hood over her head, and pushed Laura's face into her own feces.
In addition to the murder charge, Cummings also pled guilty to the unlawful imprisonment of a handicapped person, which is classified as a hate crime.
