@TheKILLA317 A little correction. Thessaly was the first Greek power that used cavalry in great numbers. At the times of Jason of Ferres (mid-4th B.C.), they had 15,000 horsemen often going to quick campaigns only with cavalry. It is that know-how that Philip II knew how to take advantage when he subdued in a step by step effort all of Thessaly. Much of Macedonian's cavalry were Thessalians and certainly the Companion's horses were Thessalian including Alexander's Boucephalas.

In ancient Greece every city-state had its own specialty in war..Spartan were the best hoplites ( heavy infantry),Akarnanians were the best javelin skirmishers, Rhodians were the best slingers,Athenians were great hoplites and had some elite cavalry too,Cretans were elite archers and finally Macedonians were the first in Greece who used cavalry in great numbers..
