  • Today, January 23, 2012, my beloved friend Evie was diagnosed with Lymphoma. We are all devastated and pledge to make the rest of her life as special as can be. Although we cant afford it I am going to come up with a way to give her the $4,500 chemotherapy treatment. There is a 75% chance that she will have one good year left if we can do it...no question what our decision is. It comes as some consolation that we know that she is very much aware of how loved she is and how special she is to us.

  • @ILLINUT; Very sorry to hear that. Our Golden Retriever was diagnosed on Jan 26th 2012 with Lymphoma as well. It's like they ripped our hearts out. We know exactly how you feel. Our boy, Jake is only eight years old. How old is Evie?

  • @USFA45LC Evie turned 3 in December, and being so young is one of the reasons I knew I just had to do everything possible. They say the formula to calculate "dog years to human age" is the dog's age multiplied by 7. Usuing that formula Evie is just 21y 7m old in people years. She is responding well to the chemo thru her 3rd dose. My heart goes out to you and your family as well thru your own personal struggles with canine lymphoma. Im certain that he is feeling the loving embrace of your family!

  • @ILLINUT ; .......we were given the option of Chemo as well. We were quoted starting at $3000.00, BUT we were told it could easily climb to $10,000/$15,000. when all is said and done. It break our heart, but we do not have the income to support it. We were also told that it would buy us another year with Jake, but at what could be $15G's?? We opted for the Prednisone treatment, which only gives Jake 2 months max.......

  • @USFA45LC I hope that our vet was somewhat accurate because we wont be able to cover much beyond the $4500 we were advised of. I made it clear to him that I am in poor financial shape so I would hope that he would keep me posted as it progresses...So far thru 3 of 25 treatments we are on budget for about $5000, for what its worth. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments! I do hope that you find comfort in knowing that there are others that are going thru this and are praying for you all!

  • while taking a break from canoeing to let our dog go swimming for the first time we were surprised when a huge yellow lab mix came swimming along. Apparently its idiot owners didnt stop the dog from taking off on its own. they came along about 15 minutes later....young 20ish kids

  • @ILLINUT ; I too hope it's an accurate figure for you. I really hope it works out well for Evie. Jake has taken a turn for the worse. His breathing has become worse. It's also hard for him to swallow, even though he is eating more now then he ever did. We have an appt for the in-home euthanasia(Lap of Love), for this Wednesday. Wednesday will be an awful day.

  • thats my baby evie!!! :)
