Abhisaar - the journey of Srimati Radharani to her beloved Krishna battling all odds . In the opinion of some mystics it is actually the journey of jivatman to the paramatman , or the journey of kundalini to the sahashrar .

Whatever may be the explanation , the journey has continued to fascinate and enchant countless devotees , poets and playwrights . Vaishnav poet Govinda das describes the rendezvous in the following manner ---

Planting thorns in her courtyard
She walks over them
In soft careful steps
Muffling her jingling anklets with her dress.
She makes it slippery
Pouring water from her pitcher
And steadying her steps with her toes
All these she practices at home secretly at night
For the long and difficult journey to her love.

It may be quite dark
So she walks blindfold
Covering her eyes with her palms
From a professional charmer
She learns how to charm poisonous snakes
Paying him pawning her jewels
To her elders she seems to have become totally deaf
Often giving meaningless answers to their queries
From the way she behaves with her relations
It is Govindadasa's guess
She must be completely out of her senses.

Typically abhisaar may be in purnima(full moon night) or in monsoons . Imagery created in a abhisaar is strong and vivid . Radha's flowers in the head are falling off , her dress dropping off . Her steps unsteady with divine ecstasy , feet blistered with thorns and wild bushes . But still her quest goes on till she finally becomes united with her beloved in the midst of nikunjavana . This is where abhisaar ends and lila begins .

this video is set to Ragaa Megha Mallar . It begins with indian bamboo flute rendition of the Ragaa and proceeds to vocal alaap and ends with jhala in sitar . The pictures of Radharani are drawn by me for the video .

May all of us attain to that yearning for lord , like radharani ...

  • This philosophical view is obviously partial to male gender and sees feminine gender as somewhat inferior. It also seeks to show an unreal split between two immortal Beloveds whose love-devotion the mystical musicians are supposed to emulate. Together ShriRadhaKrishna are always already sahasra or the peak of kundalini energy.

  • @ritubahar you think so ?!!

but i dont see any such thing in abhisaar . although abhisaar is a concept associated with radharani who is a female , it is not the end of the story . when krishna is not given attention by maanini radha and he leaves to suicide in yamuna i cannot help but think of glorification of the female principle . and all this reaches a pinnacle with krishna placing radha's feet on his head--- dehi padapallavamudaram !!

  • @ritubahar .....(cont) besides , without viraha there cannot be any milana . both are interlinked concept . our poets have glorified viraha in abhisaar and milan in raas leela .

im also unable to understand what is unreal about this . becuase in our material lives too we are faced with viraha emotions .

  • @ritubahar ..............(cont).........from veiwpoint of kundalini -- kundalini shakti is prakriti roopa or female principle which lies dormant at muladhaar . and shahasrar is the abode of shiva or the male principle . both are not united .unity of them both signifies end of birth cyycles or moksha .

the process to unify them is called sadhana .

  • And even for those who aren't musicians, the worship of any divine loving couple is much more healthy and family-oriented than worship of one or the other.
