"It look's Like Love".
Henry Hall & His Gleneagles Hotel Dance Band.
'Recorded at the Midland Hotel, Manchester'.

This Henry Hall record is rather worn but the sign of a good tune I suppose.. The vocal is by Bobby Sanders and it was recorded on Sunday, 19th April 1931.

  • Garry, I think you nailed one of the many factors that are responsible for this recording's appeal - that heavy bass! I love the multi-layered orchestration, too. "Song of Songs" is still the side for me, but this is excellent too.

  • I thought you SHOULD like this one!. I have uploaded it on the Radiogram but to my horror near the end, the large steet needle caught and stuck in one of the grooves. Dont fear though as it plays perfect on this diamond lightweight stylus. I will try 'Song of Songs' soon, the Bass line should be fantastic.

  • This IS Henry Hall came about after his temporary engagement as musical director on the Queen Mary's maiden voyage in 1935. His replacement at the BBC sounded uncannily like him, so upon his return, "This IS Henry Hall" was coined as his "signature."

  • Nice rendition- hope to hear it in a "modern dub" one day...

If you like the tune, look for Clyde McCoy's Columbia version - quite hottish indeed, and instrumental.

  • Great sound. Never heard this tune before. Sounds much better than my band in The Midland, Manchester in the late 1970s!

  • What a beautiful blue label. This is a super tune, just makes you want to get up and dance.I've never been a fan of Henry Hall as my grandmother told us how pompous he was when he said, "This IS Henry Hall", bu t things are changing after hearing such great music. Thank you.

  • Putting this tune my way so to speak-MUCH appreciated!

  • these records are indeed very rare, well done on a great find!
