The reason the 2g's crankwalked was because they used cheap thrust washers. The official fix from Mitsu was to replace the thrust washers. And whoever said something about power robbing awd system, you obviously know absolutely nothing about cars and should probably never try to speak again about cars.

I owned a 91 Tsi front drive and my father had a new 97 AWD version at the time. He would floor it in 2nd and I'd keep mine in 3rd gear at 60 kph...being 500 lbs lighter, it was no contest.

There are more AWD Talons and Eclipses because the AWD trim level wasn't available on the Lasers until 1992, whereas the Talons and Eclipses had them from the beginning
