The new Whites TDI Pulse machine. In this video we put the TDI to a quick preliminary test against the Minelab Explorer. How does it stack up for coin and relic hunting? Watch the video and see for yourself.

  • Can you tell me how much depth you lose while trying to do the ground balance tweak to discriminate and identify iron.

  • @burlbark Burlbark........I can't say it lost much in the depth department. Maybe a quarter inch tops. Did pretty good considering.

  • worth the money??

  • @odee900 Hi Odee,

I think for the price a TDI goes for you'd be better off getting a Minelab or even a V3i if you're a Whites fan.

It's a good machine but I see it being a beach hunting detector more than anything.

  • Very informative, I'm finding it hard to obtain user info on the TDI so this has been very helpful. Any chance of another video putting the TDI through its paces?

  • Hi Rich,

I'd be happy to run this by Tom who is in front of the camera in this video. He is always willing to help fellow detectorists out as am I.

I'll see what we can do.

    Thanks

  • Chris... Too much money? Check out the NEW TDI SL.....problem with the Explores is that they respond to certain ferrous like silver and true silver depending on factors can be skipped over as well. With the TDI SL and TDI Standard or Pro, you can readily identify Iron v NON-Iron by a manipulation of the controls. Also, I know the test was for Silver but when it comes to Gold, the TDI Circuit has literally no equal, especially in a beach setting.

  • Thanks for the video. I was looking to get a TDI but when it pulled out so much JUNK. I don't want that. I knew that a pulse shows everything....but to see that and HEAR that....OUCH!!

  • For the record as a TDI owner I am able to go without problem on the beach 4' down for aluminum cans.

  • Tom, some of the ground I hunt is heavily mineralized, so much so that any small variance on the GB knob will put it "out of balance"....would I still be able to discriminate out iron by turning down GB? I'm thinking if I try to turn GB down, it will simply start to pick up the ground. What do you think? I'd LOVE to be able to do that, because at the Civil War camps we hunt, there are TONS of nails.

Eagerly awaiting your reply. If you wanna send me a youtube message I'd really appreciate it.

  • I would swing the TDI slower and it would go deeper you can swing a PI as fast as A VLF.

  • Tom, great to see you swing a White's Detector again.

  • Tom....

Great seeing you swing a White's again.... Greg

  • Nice Video thanks for testing out the detectors

If you didnt know Pulse Indicator metal detectors are not as good at discrimating targets because the reflected pulse length of various metals are not easily separated but they go deeper in high mineralized ground then Very Low Frequency (VLF) detectors. and the TDI is a very very good relic detector for culpeper virginia or bad ground, like a beach or rocky site with lots of magnetite.
