Backcountry Camping at Lost Maples, April 2010

Spring is a good time to visit Lost Maples State Natural Area in the Texas Hill Country. The park is not over-crowded. Almost 11 miles of well-marked trails lead to scenic overlooks, spring-fed ponds, prime birding habitat and 40 primitive backpack camping sites.

Located along the Sabinal River, this 2,208-acre park is an inspiring mixture of sheer limestone cliffs, deep canyons, dense woodlands, and numerous clear streams.

In this video, we camped at Primitive Area B and hiked throughout the park. We were the only campers at Area B. Our plan is to return in late autumn to see the old-growth maples setting the canyons ablaze with red,orange and gold foliage.
