This is a sad but heartwarming story....The situation was pretty bad...about 200 abandoned dogs breeding out of control and running amuk on the "Rez"....It was a joint effort: Loving All Animals, PetSmart Charities, the Humane Society, Save-a-Pet, Animal Samaritans, and a few of us crazy veterinarians and other volunteers went down to a poverty-stricken Indian reservation to spay and neuter about 200 feral dogs and cats. This event was situated in a run-down trailer park nicknamed "Duroville", named after the man who owns the property. Over the years, people came and went and a lot of the dogs and cats were left behind and became feral. There are several generations of dogs here....running wild, and breeding out of control. Hopefully now, this is a better place.
UPDATE: Someone adopted one of these rescued dogs at a prestigious event in Palm Springs...and witnesses said the dog got a ride to his new home in his own private limo...talk about rags to riches :)

  • One of these dogs that got helped here got adopted at a fund raiser in Palm Springs. I heard he got a private limo ride home to his new house:) At least something good came of this. I wish these people didn't have to live like this. I am a veterinarian, so I am helping the animals, and hopefully in some small way, helping the people. Putting people down because of their circumstances in life is not cool. Put down what they do, if it's something wrong, but not who they are.

  • I feel bad for the animals and I'm glad they were helped; but I feel even worse for the people who were stuck living in that craphole. I hope they have better lives now.

  • @veelalynne Yeah, I know. I am ignorant about how all this works, but it does make you wonder about where all the casino money goes. I guess these guys don't have one.

  • God bless you and your work, Doctor. If I lived closer I'd volunteer.

  • this is america?....this shit look worse then mexico

  • @SusanEyerAndersonDVM Either that- or it isn't getting to everybody.

  • INDIANS, as in aboriginals

  • Thank you for posting and sending me this. Heartwarming but also so sad. We don't have many problems with homeless dogs around here such as this, but ours take the form of dogs that end up getting put down in shelters after a week or possibly longer. It's wonderful to see prevention instead of euthanization.

  • that is so sad i hope that the dog that you was trying to save finds a home.

Max my Jackrussle sorta just picked us and just woundered in one day and we took him in . we would proably take in every animal we could if we could afford it.

We already have 1 bird, 1 fish, 1 dog and 1 4 foot Comman Green Igouna. we love our animals.
