Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, finds itself in a curious situation in India. Barred by government restrictions, it cannot directly operate as a retailer. As a result, the company's strategy has been to develop what Raj Jain, Wal-Mart India's president, calls a business-to-business wholesale cash-and-carry operation. In addition, Wal-Mart India is playing a leading role in helping develop modern supply chains in India. In an interview with India Knowledge@Wharton at the recent U.S. India Business Council meeting in Washington, D.C., Jain spoke about Wal-Mart's operations and strategy in India.

  • damn it u r not going to improve any medium or small industries in india u'll only work for deepening ur roots in indian market

  • wal mart should not be allowed in india

they will take over indian retail market

and the middle class will again have to suffer :(

already the pizza hut, dominos, macD etc etc have ruined our country on the name of globalization and international market

Is over govt sleeping or what!

again they are looking for there own welfare and making profit

shit man again a drawback for us:(

  • i just came from punjab and there r like so many wal marts in punjab already

  • Time has come to transform food retail sector in India, This will create thousands of jobs and move India into 21st century, But this will come as bad news for local shops...Good luck Walmart

  • WAL-MART should not be allowed in Indian Markets. This will result in hoarding and the price of goods and services will only increase in Indian markets.

This is very bad for Indians in general and the poor in particular. Unfortunately Indian Govt has been floored by these MNC;s, welcome them only in Hi-tec areas.

While MCDONALD 1 dollar meal is used as an index by WHO for poverty, it has not been able to sustain to Indian meal which cost's close to 1/4th of the price.

  • Walmart is a terrible assault on India's magnificent culture... sigh....

  • hi porki. did u survive the bomb blasts?

  • I would like to contact Mr. Jain ,Can I have his email address

    if possible

  • lmao

  • Nuke India, and Dell and Walmart will go under!
