Guelaguetza is a yearly celebration in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The state of Oaxaca has the highest indigenous population in Mexico at 40%. At the Guelaguetza, which can be loosely translated as the "festival of sharing", representative "delegations" of the various towns and ethnic groups come to the city of Oaxaca for a two week celebration at the end of July. Stadium performances on successive Mondays highlight the celebration, but for the intimacy of seeing the costumes and dances of the delegations, the parades on the Saturdays of Guelaguetza are the best.

Here is an abbreviated, although at this time incomplete, sense of being in the parade of delegations.

Tech info: Canon 5D Mark II, 15mm Sigma lens, Audio-Technica Stereo field mike mounted on the camera.
