  • Another sucker, can't believe people are paying $300 for this junk.

  • @JBHutto

One man's Junk is another man's Gold.

  • How do they make that fire effect I have a friend that has one we havent got into the thing yet to see how the effect of the fire on the back panel is done yet but it is really a very cool effect?

  • Good question. Usually when I buy something the first thing I do is take it apart and see how it works. In this case I decided NOT to take it apart. The mystery adds to the true fascination of this remarkable Fireplace built by the Amish. Very intriguing. So I will leave it alone (maybe).

  • You can get the same or better flame effect from an electric fireplace stove, from a reputable company for $100-$300. If it's ambience you want, get one of those, if you want to save money on your heating bill, go for a sturdy (can't stress that enough) space heater. Of course the well built fireplace stove provides both

  • It might look nicer, but you could have spent $40 and bought an electric radiator that would put out the same amount of heat.

  • @phantasm091

8¢ and 16¢ an hour? Did you get that figure from the misleading commercials or actually do the calculations for what YOUR power company charges?

Also please explain how a $20 Walmart heater which uses 700/1500 watts of power costs more to run than this fireplace which also uses 750/1500 watts.

I will admit that I would buy this FAKE fireplace if I were into 70s decor. That thing would be right at home in a Laugh-In skit.

  • So you pay $400 for a wood mantle and the heater is free? This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. You can buy a parabolic radiant heater or oil filled electric rated at the same 1500 Watts for about $49. A parabolic radiant does save energy if all you need to heat is yourself. I have a Lakewood and it has an IR sensor that detects the temperature of the target(you)and cycles on and off and the IR heats deep like the Sun. This thing heats air and would have to heat the entire room/house.

  • HI, Thanks for this nice video! Would you please check out Heat Surge Fan page on Facebook. I submited an Earth Day tip video and would apprecaite your votes! thanks Darlene

  • I live in FL and only use the lights part of mine. I hear the heat side breaks easily and a $20 space heater works just as well. So i don't use it for heat but more for mood.

I use it almost every single night. I love mine with a passion. It really sets the mood when I want to relax and feel settled in at home. I'm glad I got mine.

  • I used to be a Heat Surge telephone operator. The fire effect is a nifty lighting trick - there is a rod with strips of reflective metal attached to it - the part looks rather like a sparse metallic pipe cleaner. It rotates in front of the light source, and the reflective metal strips throw "tongues" of light up against a reflective background. Add an orange filter and voila - instant fake flames.
