This was a fun little experiment I did to see how much damage potential I could inflict without the use of a well-timed Geno Whirl. However, what started as a harmless little test turned into a glitch. :P

Apparently it's possible to do over 9999 damage, but the numbers screw up when you get this high (similar to what happens in EarthBound when your HP goes over 999; the game starts reading non-numerical data when it attempts to visually render the higher numbers.)

As far as I know, this is the most damage you can possibly do in Super Mario RPG. Although, if it's possible to do higher, I'll gladly stand corrected. My knowledge of Super Mario RPG's game mechanics is fairly limited.

In case people are curious about the conditions in this battle, I'll explain them:

- King Bomb has the lowest Mg. Defense in the game (0, tied with Shelly), who is also vulnerable to Jump.

- Mario's level is 30, with a base Mg. Attack of 143. Mario was given the "Magic" bonus at each level up. He's equipped with the Super Jacket (+50 to Mg. Attack) and the Attack Scarf (+30 to Mg. Attack), which boosts Mario's base Mg. Attack to 223. In addition to that, Mario was also given the "Attack Up!" bonus. So basically, I think Mario's Mg. Attack is as high as it can possibly be (without using hacks, of course.)

- Mario does 100 consecutive Ultra Jumps. Ultra Jump has a Magic Power of 65 (and yes, I cheated to do that many jumps...)

- This video was recorded in Super Monkey RPG (a text-only hack), but you probably can't tell by watching the video. :P

  • @ctierney911 Role Playing Game*

  • @ctierney911 Regular Playing Game. It dates back to when almost all games were turn based and had lots of text, so those were considered "Regular Playing Games". Get it?

  • what does rpg stand 4?

  • @ultimajoe777 problem with that is that hexadecimal stops at G with 16... and the other 3 numbers would not work with it, since they are decimal.

what probably happened is that the number went so high that the binary for it went over 9 for whatever encoding the game uses and it went into letters, which follow them in the encoding table

for example, in ascii, 9 is the ascii number 59 (in decimals) and I is the ascii number 73.

  • 96 one ups!/101 jumps!

  • hahahaahhahahahahah lol

  • I664?

    wow...

  • IT"S OVER ONE THOUSAND!!!

  • @hentaiseeker In Hexadecimal terms an I would occur if the address' value exceeds its numerical limit and that usually makes it start at A. Therefore, think of A as 10 in this case meaning A664 would have been 10664. By that logic and counting up all the way to I then the damage he inflicted in this video was actually 18664 damage! i will say this though: Instead of seeking hentai seek anti-typo lessons :P

  • @CristaliaMi I managed to get 100 so I got the elusive Super Suit. Yay! Bragging rights for me-e!
