Justin's Beginners Guitar Course v2.

This is the seventh video in Stage 0 - the "Before you begin" stage, and in this video I will give you the low down on different picks, and how to hold them. Important beginners stuff.

The Justinguitar Beginners Guitar Course, a series of over 100 lessons on guitar for beginners. Text support is on the web site and also in a proper old skool paper book which can be ordered from the web site of your local music store :)

Taught by Justin Sandercoe.

Full support at the justinguitar web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem.

And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships, no free ebook. Just tons of great lessons :)

To get help with this lesson (and for further info and tabs), find the Lesson ID in the video title (like ST-667 or whatever) and then look it up on the Lesson Index page of justinguitar.com

Have fun :)

  • @TheGrof12 hey i have this problem tooo!

  • That way of holding is good for picking and solos, but its hard for me to strum.I feel like im hiting strings to hard.

  • I started by holding the pick with the index finger straight as instructed in this video @5:33 but after about 10 months of playing i changed to the curled index finger style @5:49 cause it increased my picking speed and accuracy immensely with just 1 week of practice.

  • To all the people that are saying your pick is getting stuck on the strings, it has to do with how tight you hold your pick and the angle the pick is at, this is especially true for up strokes, only advice I can give is try to loosen your grip but have it tight enough to hold on to it, and after that its really just fine tuning and practice.

  • i can only play with 1.0mm or thicker, currently using 1.38mm

  • which bit of the thumb is it?

  • For any beginners having trouble to hold a pick check out DAVO picks. They are incredible. Nothing has improved my playing more. The picks have leather grooves which give me great control. Just a suggestion for any other beginner out there who had trouble like me.

  • @w9jon stop joking, my unicorn have toes :C

  • i prefear picks 0.8 mm

  • @popopopoooooooooyteh but surely unicorns have hooves so they dont have toes hahaha
