Our visit to the "Andy Griffith Lake" in August 2003. It was called Myers Lake in the Andy Griffith Show, and was of course supposed to be located near Mayberry, North Carolina. The fictional Myers Lake was named after the show's production manager Frank E. Myers. The real lake, shown during the opening credits and visited in several episodes is actually Franklin Canyon Lake, is part of a reservoir system, and is located in Beverly Hills, California.

  • Where is this lake located? Anyone know?

  • Franklin Canyon Lake in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California. Go to Google Maps and put in Franklin Canyon Park, Los Angeles, California

  • did you walk down the path they did on the show??

  • We couldn't quite figure out where the exact path was! We probably walked it, but weren't sure. The lake is much lower now than it was in the sixties, and there is lots of grass and other plants that have grown up. If I had made better note of the trees, I'm sure it would have been obvious, however.

  • were those 2 big rocks there???

  • I didn't see the two rocks, and other websites that show this filming location don't seem to show them either. My guess is that they may have been props added by the film crew to add more visual interest. Either that or someone moved them some time ago, I guess.

  • In that last picture of the lake, I think I saw... 'Old Sam'

  • The lake also substituted for Lake Tahoe in the TV series "Bonanza"

  • nice guitar work!!!

  • @mokwella close to Hollywood hills

  • You found it your family Memeber was standing in the right location the rock was thrown Great Video of our TV history thanks :)

  • I found the path, it looks exactly the same today with the exception of the rocks are not there unless they are under the trees that have grown up and of course the old tree branch has log rotted away. The spot where Opie threw the rock is now grown up in weeds, the lake is filling with silt and weeds, in the future, there will probably be no lake left.

  • They filmed a lot of Combat! espisodes here also. Saunders, Kirby, Cage, etc.
