USS Freedom: Would Obama build a ship like this?

Barak Obama says he wants to talk to terrorists. Empathize with them. As president, will he continue to modernize our military?

This new navy vessel is designed to protect our freedoms against a new style of warfare brought by Islamic extremists and other terrorists. That is why it was named USS Freedom.

Speaking as a retired USN sailor: No he wouldn't; because the LCS is an almost useless, over priced gold plater that needs DDGs to defend it from anything bigger than a go-fast. It's hated by almost everyone in the Navy who doesn't work in the Pentagon.

@MrFattyfatfatboy Being built to civilian construction standards means they aren't built for ANY kind of warfare. The hull in both types can be penetrated by small arms fire, unlike normal combatants which are resistant to anything .50cal or below.

Both the LCS1(Freedom) and LCS2 (Independence) Classes are a basic boondoggle. A report by the Pentagon's director of Operational Test and Evaluation found that neither design was expected to "be survivable in a hostile combat environment" and that neither ship could withstand the Navy's full ship shock trials. And of course, the MASSIVE cost overruns...Qwerty99 had it absolutely right! Every blackshoe in the Navy hates these... and for good reason.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure you said " Why shouldn't Europ pull it's weight?" which it is obviously doing. France had the biggest footprint in what region, what are you on about?
