@TheHibye65 The series was not cancelled, it ended because the story was told and brilliantly so.
If you want to see the nuts and bolts of Octavian's (Augustus') reign, watch the magnificent PBS series "I, Claudius." How historically authentic that series pretended to be is neither here nor there. The drama was mind-boggling.

Actually, none of the belligerents really lost the war. The last of the Julian emperor, Nero, has blood in his veins from Caesar, Octavian and Livia, Octavia and Antony, Agrippa, and, last but not least, Venus and Mars themselves. Ok, let's forget about Cicero and Brutus, and Pompey, though this latter had a chance -when married to Julia, daughter of Caesar- but didn't take it.

@eXcommunicate1979 i agree. i loved the series but it was so rushed

The show should have been 3 seasons.
Season 1 - Rise of Caesar. Caesar's death.
Season 2 - Rise of Antony and the triumvirate. Brutus' death.
Season 3 - Fall of Antony. Rise of Octavian. Antony and Cleopatra's deaths.
The show deserved 3 seasons just like this.

@TheHibye65 but thats my point, I, Claudius already showed all that :D

@johnkerry7 I've seen the 70's version of I, Claudius and I really enjoyed it. I don't know if the HBO version can top it but I hope so. Watching the original I, Claudius made me realize how many stories were left for Rome to tell. We never got to see Octavian's full reign, as well watch Livia enact all her treachery. So much potential wasted by short sighted executives.

Love it ! Just finished watching the second season, again ! but I just can't get enough of this series !!!!! and time after time the last scene brings tears to my eyes :(

@TheHibye65 I Claudius (the 70's version) takes place a few years after Rome Season 2. Its already a great continuation of Romes series.

@pau8x yes, poor the Attia, too bad the Antony had to die
Thanks so much Ollethka for posting this! I've been looking for the music from this scene forever. It was my favorite moment from the entire series. The look on Attia's face when she sees Antony is heartbreaking. I loved them together. I still can't believe HBO cancelled this amazing series. At least TPTB at HBO now realize what a mistake they made. Thanks again!

I think it was perfect and symmetrical to end the series after the second season. For the first season, it was the start of something, and the second season was the end of something. Or for the first season, it was the end of something, and the second season was the beginning of something. It continually recycles and everytime I've watched the series, I always draw new interpretations. This series joins the pantheon of HBO gods.
