Video report by University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine students Paige Drever, Daniel Irvine and Elliot Wilkinson (Class 2013). This video was filmed in the summer of 2010 in northern Saskatchewan, celebrating Saskatchewan's Métis people, with a focus on the community of Ile-a-la-Crosse. Three University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine students spent six weeks there as part of a community service-learning program called Making the Links. This program provides students with opportunities to learn about Aboriginal health and culture, and make connections between this northern community and other global communities. The video is a compilation of many conversations, honouring the wisdom of the elders, the energy of the youth and the strength of the families. The stories of pain and healing are emotional, yet provide inspiration and hope for the future of the community of Ile-a-la-Crosse. Our hope is that this video will be shared and used as a symbol of the strength and resilience of Métis peoples.
