@Kuahmel I always figured it was an energon issue. Autobots were low on energy and very vulnerable at the time; Decepticons were living off the fat of the land, and were strong. Whatever it is, it's a maguffin so that we can watch the life drain out of beloved characters.

What I always found silly was how normal shots these guys generally survived with a simple knockdown now could outright kill them. And I've never seen anything explain away this contradiction of quite-clearly-defined TF internal logic. So it was basically movie writers feeling like killing characters off.

@syannlynn I remember sitting there with my mouth open. His eyes went out and he dropped dead. Nothing could be more clear that he was not getting repaired.

To this day "Such heroic nonsense" remains the most evil thing I've every heard. hahaha

I see this way: A great hero is killed by a great villian. Yes the movie was a "toy inventory purge" but comeone the characters never before had mixed it up in the cartoon as they did in the movie.
TF was the only 80s cartoon where character could be KILLED without the sensors freaking out. You could not violently kill a human character back then it just wasn't allowed. The robots were stealthy enough not to cause controversey.

i remember seeing this as a kid as well, i never thought of the transformers movie as a promotion for new line of toys and series
i always thought of it as a major change bc well, it would get stale to see the same characters every ep for every series

I remember when I saw this in the theater back in 1986. Prowl dying had to be one of the most graphic things I had ever seen. Especially since it was a cartoon.

This really messed with my head when I was a kid. In the cartoon show, anyone who was shot was just repaired later on. No one actually died. Plus those that died were key characters. I guess they were making room for the new guys.
