How can you touch the wires if its connected to the battery!

..and after using this method so make light to fix your car and solve the problem.. you suddenly find that you just short circuited the battery so theres not enough power left to actually start the car.. brightspark lol

How about u use the head lights
-
carry a flashlight?

@Brackenkwl Graphite has lead in it. A small amount, but it does. It's not poisonous to the body unless taken in big amounts.

A good survival technique. But that's about all it's good for since it is highly dangerous. Stop coming up with smart ass comments like "Why don't you just use a flashlight?" You should never find yourself doing this unless it is absolutely necessary. Like in a life or death situation for instance? Stuck in the wild?

Flashlight anyone?
So I have to find a pencil, split it open, remove the lead, break it into 1 inch sections, find speaker wire, strip it, wrap it around the lead, open the hood of my car, strip the other end of the speaker wire, and attach the lead to the car battery, ALL WHILE I CAN'T SEE. Ummm.........no.

not very good for fixing a problem on a vehicle... or anything for that matter. Extremely dangerous method of producing light... if you drop it or touch any sort of grounding with it... you can get a nice electrical arc explosion...
and then your dead.
This would only be a good thing as a last resort to facilitate self rescue as a signalling device for rescuers to come and find you... NOT as a light source. This is a rescue flare at best.
Sleep in your car and wait until morning.
