  • I'm a 38 year old man that's been to several different war zones throughout the world, and this kid inspired me. There is hope for our youth....

  • I am a 39 year old white woman who returned to college and got money given to me through scholarships and grants. My very white children are attending college with money given to them as well. The reason you are piss poor is more about your attitude than about your race. there are so many scholarships out there but you have to look for them, work for them, ask for them, and earn them. This man is positive. Has a wonderful work ethic, hence why he gave the speech in the first place. He earned it.

  • This morning i was blessed to have one of my friends on Facebook bless my page with your memorable and inspirations and definitely unforgettable speech. You are truly a living testimony for all minorities or individuals who deal with struggles and obstacles put in their paths but make the greatest choice which is never to give up. I am a 29 year old female in southern California and i definitely relate to all the points you addressed in your speech which did not break you but made you stronger.

  • INSPIRATION

  • I am SO proud of you. A friend of mine, from Africa, said to me last night, "American children are NOT achievers, they are slackers, they lack dedication to education and they are not upstanding young men and women." Well Deonte' what a major inspiration you are to clear proof that there are still young black MEN in this country with morals, values and a tenacity that is out of this world. I wish you God's speed my friend. Take it to the stars.

  • Excellent! Know the history prior slavery and be a leader with courage!

  • You are in my history book forever. Thank you. I going to show you speech to my misguided high school students that I tutor. I can't explain how much this means to me. It literally brings tears to my eyes. Don't stop moving!! Whatever you do...don't EVER stop. I've seen too much.. I myself have beat adversity and I am on my medical school. It doesn't stop here Deonte. Thank you for giving me strength. Thank you for giving the youth strength. May GOD bless you. Lots of love. -Chanel

  • I am late seeing the speech and interview..It is over a year since, and you are still inspiring people. I am a middle age woman. I am very proud of you! May God continue to Bless You! Looking forward to hearing more about you!

  • @kimmie88ful It is because of people like you, because of the class that you come from, that many people in this country are suppressed. We know you and your kids "pulled yourselves from your own boot straps". Read some text in regards to the racial history of this nation before you speak.

  • I was in attendance at the commencement ceremony. You were very inspiring and your speech was so emotional. You are blessed.

  • may God grant you good health and grace to continue on the path you have chosen, keep reaching for the stars.
