With those in mind, i promised myself that i will do everything to also be successful in life. And as i am now married and have a child of my own, i can still relate because i would want to hear my family speak their mind and be one in solving whatever challenges we encounter. That's how "universal" the effect of Oshin in my life. I just hope that i can also spur some reactions to those who have watched it then.

This kind of attitude can be seen in most of Asian dramas for it reflects the way we value our family especially the elders. The role of women as a beacon of light is highly visible as well as their importance in the rearing up of children to help them be a better person through positive motivations that is full of love. Men were viewed then (by remembering her father) as the traditional "all high and mighty" type - strict, hardheaded, uncaring, stubborn and selfish; the one that won't yield.

As i remember, Oshin was sent away to work as a slave. She was even ordered to fetch water and wash dirty clothes or dishes in a river amidst winter weather. In order to withstand hardships, she would just remember her mother and grandmother then she'll feel warm again. Oshin even escape one day in order to see them, i think this was her way of recharging her spirit by going back to her roots, wherein she would be able to forget about it for just a few moments.

Kawaii song....
I watched this aired in my country when I was young. Even though I am a Filipino, I can easily relate to her struggles and suffering back then. Oshin's story is deeply implanted within my persona and has greatly influenced my way of thinking upon growing up. Patience, hardwork, respect to self and others are the foundations of being a good person. I just love this story!
