  • Dec. 1, '79 @ the EBallroom? There is actually a bootleg of that show and bits are on YouTube. Wish I could've seen that show.

Signing a new band to a label is like a kid getting a shiny new toy. At first they're all excited and then it loses its luster and it's on to the next thing. In the case of Wild Horses, Robbo and Jimmy being notorious boozers and druggies probably didn't help. Not to mention that the band were probably not heavy metal enough at the time. Great music though.

  • SabuPtolemy . Wild Horses. Now there's a blast from the past .I saw them a few times and Michel Shencker and Phil Lynott were guesting onstage with them at a gig at The Electric Ballroom.

It always puzzles me as to why these giant corporations sign bands up then fail to give them the support they need. Then they're dumped for no other reason than lack of support from the very people that should be giving it to them.

  • Sounds like they turned it down for good reasons then. Nobody needs a restrictive record deal. And it's not like EMI were gonna treat AW as a priority act when Maiden were taking off like mad. Look at how little they did for Wild Horses whose EMI debut came out only 1 month after Maiden's.

  • SabuPtolemy. Yes, Steve is my brother.

  • SabuPtolemy. Angel Witch did turn an EMI deal down. It was down to Ken Heybourne, the then AW manager and Kevin's Dad. The single was a one off and a deal was turned down because of too many restrictions. If you're in any doubt ask Dave Hogg.

  • Angel Witch didn't turn down the EMI deal - they signed it. But the 'Sweet Danger' 7" (on EMI) performed poorly and they were dropped again and Bronze picked them up for the debut. And AW were Kevin's band, just like Maiden are Steve Harris' band, too.
