what is the benefit of casting as in your video, as opposed to filling the mold with scrap or billets and then letting the firing of the kiln do the work,,,thanks,,rodney

three reasons to pour the glass vs. packing the mold. 1st is clarity. pouring gets less air trapped and better optical effects. 2nd is the final surface of the piece. Unless you can get the kiln up to around 2300 the glass will not be fluid enough to flow into the details of the mold. last is that we make our glass from batch, so we would have to cook glass, frit it, and then fill the mold. this would double part of the cost of the work. pouring we handle the glass less and have more fun!
