  • Bullcrap!! Rigorous tests the diet 'falls out'. I've been on this diet for 10 years. More than likely the woman was asking about my book. I'm Joel Godin, the author and it works. Someone needs to ask this guy how much money they get from the pharmaceutical companies. Someone needs to ask him how much they make off of selling stupid rubber bands to put around your wrist with their logo on it. The scam is not the book, the scam is from those who hide or belittle the benefit of diet.

  • @onjoMedia Thank you for your input. As a nonprofit we pride ourselves on presenting expert rheumatologists such as Dr. Weisman who are involved not only in clinical practice, but in research that is looking for the root causes behind AS and related diseases. That said, information on diet can be found online, for free, at SAA's website, can be discussed in depth on our diet forum, and a thorough overview low starch diet can also be found at the kickas site.

  • @SPONDYLITISdotORG Okay, as a 'Non Profit' do you care to share with us the salaries of the top Executives there?

  • @onjoMedia Mr. Godin, surely as you are aware, you may review our 990 on our website, since as a nonprofit, the salary of our lone Executive Director is of public record. Our only 8 full time employees are also listed on our website.

  • @aspiemom42 I also see you've said you have AS without being HLA-B27 positive, though. I am sorry to hear that. AS gets little enough attention as is, but at least the HLA-B27 positive patients have the starch free diet as an option. I hope something good comes along for the minority of AS patients who aren't getting their symptoms from that mechanism of action.

  • @aspiemom42 In the US, it is a very big deal that doctors do not point out when diet works for a disease. A lot of it is simply our mindset towards health care, though - patients don't want to put forth effort to live differently, and doctors don't want to take the time to teach them what they need to know about their condition.

I see that there is a distinction now being made between two types of AS, one of which responds positively to the low starch diet. I hope this helps clear some fog.

  • @urusol tried to watch your video but I dont speak or understand Spanish, sorry :(....I have enough trouble with my French LOL.

  • @Bonnie90505 I have two autistic children who eat tomatoes like apples :). Just had to mention that. Also tomatoes are full of lycopene which protect you from cancer. I believe in eating healthy and getting my vitamins and minerals for food. My husband who is a biologist does not understand the night vegi thing as they are all so different. Coconut oil is good for you and you should try coconut water (milk) as well, less fat and is has some of the same composition as human blood.

  • @3948jeff That doesnt sound bad other than the animal products ;). If it were up to me none of us would eat animal or animal bi products. There are those people who say it cant be done and it does take time. Im still transitioning from Vegi to Vegan but the only thing I eat is an occasional neighborhood farm eggs (the chickens are treated humanely even the cocks). I also will eat goat cheese every now and then but would like to cut all animal products out. Oatmeal is great too :)!

  • @aspiemom42 I wanted to add that I have tried many diets & they don't really effect my AS, bad or good. So my food lifestyle is not a cure, it's what I found to work best for me & my AS. Also, it helps me to be healthy & it keeps my weight & cholesterol down & controls by acid reflux which is important too. The only suppliment I take is a calcium pill for my osteoporosis and one fish oil pill with breakfest. I'm trying a new medication, Celebrex, because it's suppose to be easier on my stomach.

  • Hi aspiemom42, I agree. Atkins sounds very bad. Here is my simple food lifestyle: Breakfast: Fat free oat bran raisin muffins with some light butter, coffee; Lunch: a small sandwich of extra lean chicken or turkey on whole wheat bread w/lettuce & tomato & a little mayo, pretzels and lots of green tea; Dinner: Small salad with lean meat (Chicken, fish, etc.), a vegatable, a starch (moderate portions), water. This seems to help control my AS the best for me & my cholesterol is way below 200.

  • I agree diet can help you. If you are overweight your fragile bones are going to bend and bow just as my stupid disk replacement is pressing and bowing my back into severe lordosis. Take meat out of your diet, its the first thing they tell heart patients, go for a more plant based diet. You dont have to be a strict Vegan but removing dead animals out of your diet is a good start ;).

  • @amisme I like that you pointed out that it is Remission and not CURE. Also its not that doctors do not point out when diet works for a disease. The doctors here in Europe do not make near the money they do in the US and they are more educated on the disease. If a diet helps you they will tell you. Take Celiac and heart disease, they do not give you meds if you heart disease is new and with Celiac they tell you it is a gluten allergy. Gluten free diets do not cure everything, sorry!
