On Wednesday, March 30, 2011, the Los Angeles Jewish Home teamed up with Temple Ahavat Shalom of Northridge, CA (TAS) to restore a 350 year old Torah. Abandoned during the holocaust, the Torah — originally from Kolin in the Czech Republic and rediscovered in Prague — was in poor shape. Years of neglect had deteriorated the parchment, and some of the text had faded or peeled. In an effort to keep the Torah's history alive, TAS commissioned a scribe, Rabbi Moshe Druin, to restore the damaged text. With the help of Jewish Home residents, Rabbi Druin finished restoring the text in an emotional event, which was covered by ABC 7 Eyewitness News!
