That depends... if what they say is that "it's going to be the end of the world" then NO IT'S NOT true. If what they say is that "it's the end of the Mayan long count calendar that is derived from earth's precession of the equinoxes movement that takes 25,950 years to cycle" then YES. There is no doom and no end of the world scenario for 2012, a lot of astronomical cycles end but they start all over again the instant they end, so don't cancel your 22/12/12 appointments :)
