Since its inception, the Caribbean American Heritage Awards Gala has attracted the Who's Who of the Caribbean-American Community, with attendance totaling over five hundred. Past keynote speakers and honorees include Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony of St. Lucia; Prime Minister Owen Arthur of Barbados; Ambassador Andrew Young; Earl Graves, publisher of Black Enterprise; Hon. Kweisi Mfume, former President, NAACP; and US Attorney General Eric Holder
John Blake of WHUR Fm 96.3, Maureen Bunyan of Channel 7 WJLA and Neki Mohan of ABC10 Miami headlined the sold out prestigious Caribbean American Heritage Awards in 2008. With pulsating beats from the Image Band over 400 revelers weathered the rain and Washingtons G20 traffic to take in the sights and sounds of Caribbean American Excellence at the historic Capitol Hilton.
Washington DC Deputy Mayor Hon. Neil Albert who stopped in to pick up his Award for Public Service was feted along with the Hon. Helen Marshall a veteran political operative and Borough President of Queens, and medical genius Dr. Cato Laurencin. Marcia Griffiths got the crowd grooving with Electric Slide.
The CARAH Gala is ICS' major fundraising effort for the year. The proceeds support the various projects and programs that ICS organize and promote throughout the year including the Celebration of June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month, the Legislative Forum on Capitol Hill, the Embassy Evening Series, and LifeSEED, the Youth-at-Risk Entrepreneurial Skills Program.
