This demonstration was conducted on 9/22/10 to show fire progression in a residential setting and the effectiveness of smoke alarms and residential fire sprinklers. Similar fires were set in trash cans in the right rear corner of both rooms for comparison between the sprinklered and non-sprinklered units. The 165 degree sprinkler head operated at approximately 1:25 and suppressed the fire. The non-sprinklered unit went to full-room involvement and was extinguished by fire crews at approx. 4:30. In most cases, local fire crews would not be on scene before this time. Fire sprinklers save lives, property and our environment!
