cTrix plays music from an Amiga 500 (or A1200 in compatiblity mode), a machine with half a meg of ram and a 7mhz processor released in 1987 as a home computer. No additional sound hardware is used - just the built in outputs being mixed externally by a DJ mixer. The entire set (much more than just this tune!) easily fits on 4 x 880k floppy disks.

The music is playing out of Protracker 2.1a booted from a floppy with a striped down operating system in order to get enough RAM to play the tunes.

cTrix has played at parties around the world including in the UK, Germany and Australia. He heads to New York for Blip Fest in 2009 (but you may have to hunt down a certain after party if you want to see him play!)

  • Is this mod available? It is sooooo EPIC! Really want to play it on our next amiga party here :) well, its no DJM 800, but another really nice numark one ;) Amiga available :D

  • @altraz2k : I just find it sounds better if you mix CH1/4 + 2/3 externally instead of the internal summing. There is usually an 800 at any gig I go to, but for testing and jamming I've just got a cheap Reloop mixer which sounds fine. I'm sure your Numark sounds great! Drop me a PM about this party you have going, sounds great!! Not quite sure what I'm doing with the MOD at this point.

  • Why you keep saying it's Amiga 500 with 512Kb while it's Amiga 1200 (2Mb at least) what is clearily visible on all these videos?

I mean - the project is a great idea and the music is not bad but repeating it's A500 is stupid.

  • @johny8888888 - My tunes all work on an unexpanded Amiga 500... or a 1000 except the filter sounds a bit muffled If you read the text you'll see that I'm running the 1200 in OCS mode (which I need for compatibility reasons). With the exception of one track (a remix of the Look Around You soundtrack) I don't use more than 512k of RAM including program room. It's my personal challenge :-) If I had two Amiga 500's that worked reliably, then I'd use them!!
