In honor of Colonel Roosevelt's 151st birthday... my favorite scene from John Milius's Rough Riders (1997), where Roosevelt (Tom Berenger) and his wife (Illeana Douglas) crash a swanky Washington dinner party. "Oh, more good Republicans!"

  • Who else thinks our current president has the backbone of an eclair?

  • Poor copy, but a great scene that does Tom Berenger credit as an actor, and I'm sure would have pleased Roosevelt.

  • Which President was that at the beginning? Cleveland or Harrison?

  • @m611martin I fist became a fan of Tom s when he was in Eddie And The Crusiers..it didnt requre the acting that his latter movies did but I stil love the movie. I love his protrail of T.R.. From what I read and film clips Tom has Teddy down beatifuly. I love this film and Tom s fine performance.

  • Theodore Rex indeed.

  • ha that flower amasing

  • @mjam93 Yes, it's fascinating to hear the crude recordings of his speeches. And to realize that he was shot in the chest while making a speech then continued to speak for quite a while even though people were begging him to stop and go to a hospital. He's the very definition of a larger than life character, his whole life makes Indiana Jones seem sheltered by comparison.

  • @Onlymusical

I agree that he wasn't so hyper he didn't know where he was going.

The film also seems to have captured the way TR spoke.

  • If I didn't know better, I would say that as characterized here, President Roosevelt exhibited all the behavioral symptoms of a cocaine user, which back in those days was quite easily obtainable.

  • This is the first time I've seen an actor capture that blazing energy we always read about but he was also a superb diplomat and this vignette with him knocking people over makes him seem a bit more buffoonish than I'd surmise that he could've been. Good to finally see the proper energy level, though.
