@NiteAngel, by the way... try typing: The capital of California... into Google. Look at the top. You'll get the direct answer. They have already been experimenting with giving direct answers in AI-like fashion. However, there are a lot more problems to solve with search than just how the answer is presented. The bigger problem is determining which websites to trust. There are a lot of spammers out there.
@NiteAngel, Google isn't spreading themselves too thin. The people working on Picasa are a different team... same for YouTube... and everything else. Still, 70% of Google's resources go into search-related problems. The problem with AI is this... people don't "speak" to search engines the way they do to other humans, so search engines actually have less information to understand meanings. For instance, someone might only type 2 or 3 words.
Lol Picasa I got to try it, hey Google, the word is focus, you are are spreading out to thin, their so much you should be doing with your search engine, all you doing now is data retrieving and indexing, how about a little AI starting with understand the human language, to being, translate a sentence, into search terms, "" and, or, + - I can remember all the crap, produce a wrapper, to hide it from the user, it's like using DOS, make a program like windows a searches interface
Picasa is incredibly one of the Best.
