http://www.GripLikeAWorldChampion.com The International Judo Federation has some new rules which they are proposing. 1999 World Judo Champion Jimmy Pedro and Dr. Rhadi Ferguson speak about the new rule changes. Actually, we are both excited about the changes. As coaches they provide an opportunity for us to become more innovative and to develop new strategies for winning and modify some of our current ones. Is it fair? Well, it doesn't matter. The bottom line is that everybody plays under the same rules. There are other sports like Sambo, Kurash, Submission Wrestling, MMA, Freestyle Wrestling, Greco Roman Wrestling, Beach Wrestling and Sumo which are available. There's no sense in arguing. Just find a sport that you enjoy and practice it. As for sport judo there will be some changes. However, Morote Gari is still a viable technique for the other grappling sports and its a great technique for self defense. • yeah, making basic fundamentals of grappling illegal is great for Judo.

I am so upset that people like you really believe the essence of Judo is not a grappling art but merely a 'throwing game'.

If leg grabbing techniques are so stupid, how come you need to make them illegal so they don't shut down your far-fetched throws?

Guess what? You don't deserve your awesome reaping throws if you can't pull them off without rigging the rules to make it easier for you. That's the truth.

  • I am very disappointed with the new rules. Unless they change this non-sense, I'm not really interested in competing in judo from now on.

  • @saltyseaweed I know, i was just wondering my self.

  • @OVERCAPITALIZE I was asking 702decatur to prove his assertion that many judokas won BJJ title. I was not asserting any BJJ guy has won a judo world title (which, to my knowledge, nobody has).

  • @saltyseaweed Any BJJ won Judo world titles?

  • @702decatur

Many judokas won BJJ world titles? Like who?

  • When IJF implemented this rule, thousands if not hundreds of thousands Judokas world-wide left Judo and went into BJJ and Sambo where the rules evolve towards positive not negative. I hope they don't renew the rules in 2012.

  • its a power trip by removing certain moves u are destroying the art in itself they are trying to stay away from the grappling but it is a part of judo . the newaza spawned bbj of today .. just strip everything away and leave only one throw . you making the sport boring and elimnianting the essence of what kano wanted it to be

  • @sang9768 You're an idiot that's not why they changed the rules. It's just how your dumbass views change.

BJJ and wrestling have their own sports if you want to play that then go. Judo has it's main focus on throwing and exposing the back to the mat.

No BJJ guy or wrestler will ever win a Olympic medal in Judo it will never happen. But do you know there are many Judo players whom have won BJJ world titles.

  • I like the new rules, now the matches re more dinamic, there more winning by ippon and there is less negative judo.

  • no, you can attack the legs as a secondary attack.
