This is an extremely poor "Leave No Trace" practice!
You are misinformed if you think you're doing something "cool". You are walking all over the fragile alpine enviroment. Destroying alpine plants that took years to establish themselves, redistributing rocks that (were once) holding back precious top soil.
Hiker's like you have become a issue in Nation Parks like Arcadia National Park, which now asks people to "leave the rocks in place for the next glacier".
Shame on you!
