  • Hi Suzanne, I can't tell you how thankful that I am for your wonderful tutorials. Your instructions are clear and your voice is calming and reassuring. Thanks so much and please, please keep them coming.

I do have one question. What was the Sharpie (white) marker that you mentioned for covering bleeds from the border? I looked today at Hobby Lobby and only found one white Sharpie but it said it was oil based.

    Danae Fayard

  • @ChristRepper4 thank you so much, that is so sweet of you to say! The sharpie I use is a Poster Paint Pen and is water-based and with extra fine tip. Lots of stores have the oil-based one but you do not want that. Mister Art online has them for $1.99 each and that is where I get all of mine as they are hard to find. Thanks!

  • Suzanne:-) pls, what is the weight of you favourite copic expreso blending sheet?

    Many thanks for replay:-)

    Lenka

  • @lilibell76 HI--I sent you a more detailed message about this, but the Copic Xpress Blend-It sheets are a 92# lb weight, it is pretty thin.

  • I recently took the Copic certification class after taking an into to Copics several years ago. People kept telling me I was coloring wrong and it just made me upset because I was very happy with my completed images. You color like I do or I like you. I do color my skin first but that helps me decide better on the rest of the colors. I wasted my money on the certification. I should have just stuck to watching videos like yours. I am heading over to your blogs now. thanks for being different.

  • @JanScholl Thanks Jan! Well my thought is we all color/do things differently and its ok, you have to be happy with what you do KWIM! I have taught over 350 classes and I know we all learn differently--my hope is to teach techniques and tips/tricks to get everyone off on the right track. Certification will not unfortunately teach you coloring techniques only specifications of the markers. Sorry but hope you find what you need, you can email me anytime as well!

  • I shade dark to light and im an animation student at one of the best art schools in the country... By thr way. Its so soothing to watch you color. C:

  • @mcescher1957 Thank you for that, I sure appreciate it! I have gone thru life with people saying derogatory things about artists & crafters and telling people that "if you don't do it their way" its wrong! It just annoys me--if you use your hands to make something then its ART period and you HAVE to do it the way that is best for you, not for someone else. So I have to put those comments in every now & then LOL when I can--I think the other way can destroy someone's dream, effort or will!

  • I had to laugh at that comment about art classes! I am the same way! ALWAYS shaded dark to light...and although in some instances the light to dark can work for me, I am MUCH more comfortable shading dark to light! Thank you so much Suzanne, not only for the wonderful tutorials (WhenI started my copic collection it was with your recommendations on SCACD) but for letting us all know that there are no "hard and fast" rules and that whatever works for the individual is the "best" way to do it!

  • I used to work light to dark all the time, but my shadows never turned out dark enough, and the highlights were never light enough. I tried this technique on my most recent drawing and I loved the results! Thanks so much for making this video!
