Born in Mississippi, Slim lost his little finger in a cotton-gin accident, so had to abandon his first love, piano, for the guitar. After moving to Chicago, he befriended the late Magic Sam, who gave him his moniker. The towering (though none too spindly) Slim has built a reputation as one of Chicagos most reliable, charismatic bluesmen. And no surprise to blues cognoscenti, Slim and his band have been nominated this year for five blues music awards: Blues entertainer of the year, guitarist, traditional blues album, traditional blues artist, and, for the sixth year running, best blues band.
