El espejo sangriento introduces and explores El nuevo cine mexicano, a movement that emerged in opposition to Mexico's declining commercial film industry and in response to the political events leading up to and following the massacre in the La Plaza de las Tres Culturas at Tlatelolco in October of 1968.
