This is the prayer for remembering the departed. The text embedded is not literal, but at times makes a translation of the text. It keeps the message of the prayer intact.
This recording was done at the Yizkor Service for Yom Kippur, 2008 at Rodef Shalom Congregation in Pittsburgh. The recording and the performance were not the best, but I thought the sentiment and meaning of the prayer were worth posting.
Soloist: Rowna Sutin
Organist: Don Megahan
Quartet:
Soprano - Katie Williams
Alto - Patty Donahue
Tenor - Andre Bierman
Bass - Sean Taylor
The Composer, H. C. Adler dedicated this piece to Josef Freudenthal, the founder of Transcontinental Music, the heart and soul of the printed music for all things Jewish.

  • Thank you so much. There are many versions of this prayer, but this one always gets the congregants attention and tears.

  • I'm listening to this so I can get myself a little prepared for Yom Kippur. Rowna, after all this graduate training I'm getting, where I'm being more and more critical of voices, listening to this now is even MORE of a pleasure than before. It's a crystal clear tone, fine musicianship, an even range from top to bottom, and an INCREDIBLE legato. Brava!!!
