@maxwell029 It's a tracheostomy tube with a passe muir so she can vocalize. The trache provides an alternative airway for her if her natural pathway is blocked, swollen, or disfunctional. Hope that helps.

@pantyflash Incorrect. The myth that we only use a fraction of our brain's computing power is just that, a myth. We use all of our brain almost all the time. It would make no sense from a biological and evolutionary perspective to have such an energy-consuming organ and not exploit it entirely. As for brain plasticity, that's a different story. It would help to know more about this girl and her injury.

Like, even though your brain is hosed, there's still hope. Studies have shown that we only use a fraction of our brains. Right now, your brain is re-programming around the small part that's actually hosed. Don't ever give up. Ultimately, you will triumph over your adversity and functionally, you won't be hosed.
