@BBQFanNo1 *facepalm* canada has had gretzky, lemieux, orr, coffey, fuhr, dryden, the espositos, both mahovlichs, lafleur, shutt plus others, play for them, and they won even with several hundred hours less practice then the soviets, im pretty sure if the 1987 canada cup team or the 1976 canada cup team, or the 1972 summit series team practiced as much as the soviets did, the games they played against eachother wouldnt have been even close, canada wouldve ripped them a new asshole
@scottwill19 What do you mean the Russians suck? This was the best era Russian team and best era International Team ever! The Central Red Army had the Greatest International Hockey players ever.
Dryden always played the Russians poor in net. Ironically the NHL Super Series 1979 had the New Years Eve rematch the Red Army with Tretiak,Kharlomov,Petrov, and Mikhailov against the Montreal Canadiens without Ken Dryden in net. Instead of a 3-1 Canadiens lead blown like 1975, the Canadiens won the game 4-2.
The Russians played all the Canada Cup tournaments very well even though none of them had Kharlamov,Petrov, and Mikhailov in any of them in 1976,1981,and 1984.
I still say goaltender Tretiak and Myshkin were the heart of the Russian International teams that played everybody up to 1984. For some reason Perreault knew how to beat Tretiak better than anybody I ever knew.
@lebourru02 the big difference is the teqnique - there is a part of the game that is "beautiful" and sadly that's very rare with the canadian sort of game. Look at this game - the canadians is skating around like dogs and misses a lots of shots and operates with weak puck-handling.
