  • Enough with the Pre-would-have-won already. For a start, it's nonsensical; no-one can ever know, so it's unprovable either way. The only facts are that Viren held off a bunch of quicker finishers, trained exclusively for the Olympics, was tough as old boots and tactically very smart too. This was his fourth Olympic title. That's seriously impressive; double the amount of a legend like Seb Coe. Viren is a worthy champion, one of the all-time greats. End of.

  • This is Viren's greatest win. You can see how smart and mentally strong runner he was. This is an excellent example how he was able to accelerate so that the others noticed it too late.

  • Anyone got the David Coleman commentary?

  • "Nyt juostaan jo tosi lujaa" - selostaja taas mukana :D

  • @AveryJS3 That is utter poppycock. As good as Pre and Viren both were , the whole "Pre-Viren rivalry" is almost non-existent. Yeah, Pre would've wanted to make amends, but whatever you had in mind as to what kind of final this would have turned out to be if Pre was running, it likely is hyperbole. In my opinion, this is probably among top 2 or three most epic 5000m finals in history, especially that final kilometer.

  • this race would've been 20 times more epic if pre ran in it....Viren Vs Pre..one of the greatest rivalries that never reached its potential...

  • Notice how effortlessly Viren pulls away...waiting for the optimum moment to use his speed and pull away! Poetry in motion!

  • @dan32113 What a DUMBASS. The ONLY common knowledge was the spewed rhetoric from disgruntled Pre fans that got he ass fucking KICKED by THREE people in the final 180M.

  • @dan32113

Perhaps his secret, if there was one, was that his coach, Rolf Haikkola, put him through a training regime that was, for the time, extraordinarily rigorous.

Viren prepared for the Olympics in a way that no one had before him; he was ruthlessly disciplined. Today he is widely considered to be a founder of modern athletics, the prime exponent of peak performance. which can be the deciding factor.

  • @dan32113 If it's common knowledge, then every single article on Viren would mention specifically that he doped. The only thing they agree is that it is rumored. Imagine if every bit of heresay became common knowledge. But who cares about the truth, right? If you tell a lie big enough, and repeat it enough, the whole world believes it. It becomes "common knowledge" to borrow your phrase. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @YiftertheShifter1 Its common knowledge across the world that Viren doped! keep up. zzzzzz

  • @dan32113 Now tell me: where did you hear that Viren blood doped? What credible source of information gave you the incriminating details? Or did you, just like all the others, hear from "somewhere" that Viren blood doped, assume this to be true without doing any research to confirm this? If yes, then I find it very funny that you're calling me stupid. I'm well aware of what blood doping and EPO does, thank you very much.
