  • @gillyh2745 I think it's about the Goulds.

  • @altdvdmag Dominic Miller claims he played guitar on this track.

  • @upfrontbear74 This is a 7 minute song in three parts. I don't think you could cut this down to make it a viable single. As complex as "Man" is, you have to wonder what the label's mandate was, post "Running in the Family."

Reading all the comments here has provided do much added depth to this track. I'd like to add that this is probably the last time we heard a guitar solo from the late Alan Murphy on an album.

  • Ode to the then Phil Gould. It seems to express the sentiments the remaining members had to him leaving the band.

  • One of my all time favorite albums, every song is class, sill can't understand why Staring At The Sun wasn't a single and this one to, it was dumped on to the b side of Take A Look.

  • This is from when Level 42 was heading more in a 'progressive rock' direction and somewhat away from their previous jazz/funk stylings. Sonically this more closely resembles the work that bands like Rush, Dream Theater, and Marillion were doing at the time. Allan Holdsworth definitely added a new dimension to their sound. Great tune.

  • Seems like they see what everyone else sees. Man is the problem of man. So arrogant, so full of ourselves we ignore counsel when given, thinking we have all the answers; but to what has it lead? Hey, man sing the blues.

  • perfekt bass line

  • Man is by far the best track from Starring at the Sun. A shame the rest of the album lacks this great melodic jazzy sound

  • Exquisite. Such poignant lyrics that could only be a possible allegory to what was happening in Mark King's personal life perhaps at this time?. Only a person with some trouble within their life could have written such a dynamic and forceful track, possibly as a result of inner turmoil. the result is a thoughtful provoking musical classic.

  • Hell I wish I had written this song! What fabulous lyrics and music. As 1litenmoped says below, great time signature transition too.

  • @1litenmoped God you're right, I love most things Level 42 but this has always stuck in my mind. Sheer depth and over the heads of many folk, I too am hugely thankful if the producers during that shallow era were asleep!!

  • @Sattel42 The best song this band ever made. I abandoned Level 42 years ago, but this tune is still one of my all time favourites!! The killing intro in 7 - and the seemless transition to 8 is so catching, I still wonder how they managed to squeeze this beauty into a pop album. The producers, thank GOD!, must have been sleeping :-)

  • nobody chose to look this time around head in the clouds no silver lining what could be wrong-not a date to save my life either! '') apathy sympathy integrity dignity we are all the same -we are all to blame- hells to the yas!

so much intensity and meaning with this music and this awesome band-thinking feeling again tonght- been years since having this CD since it came out-

  • @matti76ftw IS not was !!!

  • phenomenal song, phenomenal band. long live level 42!

  • Oh my...I can't believe!I listen too much of Level 42,but this is so unbelieaveble! And it's not so famous like piece!

  • @wpeuphoria Are you serious or are you just an idiot?

  • "She Can't Help Herself" is intensely lame, and much of the rest of Guaranteed is as well (depite it's name I never got my money back). But otherwise, yeah

  • Damn.....I just figured this out......if you fast foward this video with the slider, the pictures speed up to the actual speed of the original video.

  • Hello, this song is on the album "staring at the sun" thx level 42

  • personaly , i would say level 42 had reached their summit with this song,

    ,, very advanced compostion ,

for 1987/88 ,,very dificult to explain how modern this was,, and i must concider covering it ,,,,,

i realy like the video ,, very late 80s
