From the Album Stones. 1998.

Album Notes
Addict: Mark Aston (vocals); Nikolas Juel (guitar, keyboards); James Denham (bass); Luke Bullen (drums).Recorded at Royaltone Studios, Los Angeles, California.Personnel: Mark Aston (vocals); Luke Bullen (drums).Audio Mixer: David Bianco.Recording information: Royaltone Studios, Los Angeles, CA.Photographer: Kevin Westenberg.Addict's debut, STONES, contributes further evidence to theories about the umpteenth British invasion and the return of the guitar hero as cultural icon. Marrying an unquestionably English sense of melody with a more American indie sensibility, Addict creates a sound equally at home on either side of the pond. The stop-and-start arrangements and climbing guitar lines of STONES recall BENDS-era Radiohead, though vocalist Mark Aston eschews Thom Yorke's cranky tantrums for a breathy sincerity more reminiscent of Bush's British take on grunge."Heavy" sets its pace around a distorted, tremolo-twisted groove, throwing muscular guitars, solid harmonies and and wry, cynical observations ("We are defined by our mistakes") into the song's anthemic refrain. Addict slows down for "Teenage Angel," which spins a heartbreaking story of youthful tragedy. The band wears a little more grunge on its already crowded collective sleeve with the distorted vocal ranting of "Caned."
