Unidentified Heights (English subtitles) (2004). Part 1/4 (1/4).

The events in this movie take place in 1944, the crucial year of liberating Soviet Union from German Fascists invasion. The story stars from the moments of arrival of several new fighters for serving in the Soviet Army. The newcomers include a few people: a professional military officer, a former criminal, a lady sniper, and a military interpreter. The war brought them to Belorussia, to fight for some unidentified higher ground, which is not even marked on military maps. Here, in Byelorussian wild woods one of them will star a duel with a German sniper, another one will lead a brigade of scouts to their imminent death, but before all these actions, they would meet love and learn the price of betrayal.

The tragic story of fighting for anonymous spot on a hill in the fall of 1944 unfolds itself in this movie.
The epic battles and the details of everyday life during the War are blended into complicated fabrics of relationships between people and the war itself. Basically it is not so much a description of horrors of the war, but rather the story about people's destinies.
