  • Last words of Thomas Paine denouncing Atheism:

I would give worlds, if I had them, if the 'Age of Reason' had never been published. O Lord, help me! Christ, help me! Stay with me! It is hell to be left alone!

    —Thomas Paine (1737-1809)

  • Actually that is a false quote made by Christian fundamentalists, the kind that try to discredit people that showed flaws in the Bible by making up quotes they never made on their death bed. Thomas Paine also was not an atheist, but a Deist. Just because one is not a Christian does not make them an atheist. Please actually do 5 minutes of proper research next time before you copy and paste from junk Christian websites.

  • LOL

The quote i provided is historical FACT.

It is typical that an Atheist cannot believe what is not before him, like in this case, a historical document proving this quote.

  • No, it is not a proven historical fact. It is a rejected assertion made up later by christians. Just to let you know, a Christian website showing someone's name and their birth and death date is not the same as a historical document. It may be ideologically convenient for you to believe he recanted, but it doesn't make it anymore true. Thomas Paine again was not even an atheist.

  • Open up a book.

    also,

    semantics..... yaaaaawn

  • It is not pure semantics. A Deist is one that believes in a supreme, supernatural being (with different variations like non invention by the Deity being one). An atheist is one that lacks a belief or disbelieves in any god or gods. They are not the same. I could open many books, but I would not find the source to back up your claim. Cite the primary source. Where is the evidence that Paine said this on his death bed?

  • @opios80 Paine never repented. Should his soul be damned God will have damned an honest and true man.

  • He sacrificed his reputation to let many ppl in the past, present and future know the REAL truth about the phony bible. That my friends is a hero.

  • @IndividualAutonomy Get'em!

  • @opios80 What a load of shit. You apologist types still with your piddling assertions and your piddling lives, slobbering on with your spurious and long since debunked deathbed confessions. How pathetic.

  • "The world is my country, mankind is my brethern and doing good is my religon" need there be anything more said?

"Truth is the authority, not authority the truth" - Thomas Paine

  • @unclearimage Who said they weren't religious? Religious is a word that's been hijacked by people with a small world view, like "spirituality." I live in a world with ten billion galaxies each with ten billion suns.

  • @Pilaf1984 ... did I said they did? Did I say the ONLY God in the ENTIRE universe is the God of Chirstian/ Jews? No- But our founding fathers were all religious men or at the very least deists, you can't take a red pen and rewrite history because you don't like Religion. Our country ISN'T a theocracy, but it was founded by Religious men. Accept the facts or continue to spout out a history that never happened because you don't like a certain group of people. That's true stupidity.

  • @unclearimage You do realize when the founding fathers evoke "The God of Nature" they're not referring to the Judeo-Christian myths, right?
