@VaudevilleFanatic Gloria Jean never told Donald that he broke her rib - he would have felt terrible. She also never told him that she loved him. She said she couldn't help it - he was so wonderful. She told him years later at a party and he said, "Now you tell me." :)))))))))))

In her biography, Gloria Jean tells a funny story about about shooting this particular scene. It seems that Donald was so "overcome" after watching her sing this final number that he pulled her behind the curtains backstage and kissed her. He hugged her so hard, he broke her ribs. She didn't seem to mind too much, since she had a huge crush on him at the time. If you notice the look in his eyes during the last 30 seconds of this clip, you can tell he is really taken with her performance!
