Children of Bodom Live Forum London 19th Feb 2009 When Sound Mixer Died a Beery Death

I was recording Bed of Razors by children of Bodom at The Forum, London when someone threw beer onto the sound mixer which promptly died and caused a premature end to the gig.

Yeah I know crap sound quality but my Canon Powershot A650IS is a still camera and wasn't designed for decent videos. The mic was well overwhelmed as was the CCD sensor when the brighter lights shone in the dark. The moment the mixer dies is about 57 seconds in when the sounds are no longer badly distorted!

lol I didn't see the beer land as funnily enough I was focussed on the stage. I did look round and see the sound man give the kill signal and wipe the mixer down with a towel. Just after the kill signal was when the keyboardist came over to the lead singer (sorry forgot names off hand) and whisper in his ear and then they both scuttled off stage.

I agree why waste precious drink? It's damn expensive as it is. Yet so many people were literally throwing their money away even before that last one.

As I understand it we missed just one song as a result of the beer incident. :(. But it would have been my fave Bodom song, Hate Crew Death Roll. I know what I'm missing too, having seen HCDR played live in 2003 in Astoria. It was amazing!

I was standing by the mixing desk. They let in a lot of people to the area and the barrier was no more than what the cops use for crowd control in central london... like flimsy alluminium things. Someone told me that the beer was thrown from the balcony but I dont know, it could have been in the area as it was so poorly supervised. Still a brilliant gig and this happened at the end so no big part of the show lost but this could have been avoided with a better barrier for the mixing area.
