This song caused outrage when it was released in 1952 cos it was definitely more gospel than blues - that's using the Lord's music to do the devil's work! In October 1953 Slim recorded in New Orleans for Speciality Records & brought in Ray Charles for the session. Ray did the arrangement for Slim's biggest hit 'The Things I Used To Do'. Ray was very impressed with Slim's blues, gospel style & in 1954 recorded his first overtly, gospel based single 'I've Got A Woman'.
The Rest is History.
